Hello! I’m Patrick Mayfield

With forty years in leading, coaching and training on change, yes, I did find a lot has changed since I began my career, but only superficially. The crucial human factor in change has not. Most organisations become obsessed with exciting new technical advances, but forget the basics of human behaviour, never more important than when people are in the crux of changing how they live and work.
I wrote the definitive reference on stakeholder engagement —Practical People Engagement: Leading Change through the Power of Relationships. This became a valued resource across the world, and became the core reference for an international qualification in Stakeholder Engagement.
I was also invited to write key parts of The Effective Change Manager’s Handbook: Essential Guidance to The Change Management Body of Knowledge, a key reference of the Change Management Institute.
Coming from a technical background, I have found that people engagement is not always hard. But it is crucial. Too often the human element is neglected to the ultimate cost of the sponsors.
However, although it was an honour to author and contribute to these much needed references, I now devote my of my time to coaching clients and my online community.

My Story

I have a career spanning over 40 years. I began in local government qualifying in Town and Country Planning. Worked in Tayside Region, Oxfordshire and Oxford City, before becoming an internal project management consultant in BT Yellow Pages.

As an independent consultant, I worked with the UK Government on developing, writing and launching its premier project management method, PRINCE2, before setting up my own training and consultancy business.

Since then, I have spoken in five continents, inspiring a new generation with a better way to work and lead change.

Now, I author, coach, mentor in personal effectiveness and stakeholder engagement.
